Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) investigation into allegations against Former Free State Provincial Commissioner Mashigo and his management

The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) has noted with concern the Sowetan’s article “‘Bad’ cop gets top job”, 29 November 2010. The ICD would like to clarify some inaccuracies carried in the article.

For the record, the ICD’s final case investigative report into the allegations against former Free State Provincial Commissioner Mashigo and his management was finalised in July 2010 and not in January 2010 as reported. Therefore, if the Sowetan has any copy of the report as it claims to have, it is not the final case investigative report that was sent to the Minister of Police, Mr Nathi Mthethwa and National Commissioner of the South Africa Police Service (SAPS), General Bheki Cele.

Further, the final case investigative report has not been released publicly until it is processed by the Minister of Police and the National Commissioner.

Finally, no disciplinary action was recommended against any individual as a result of the ICD’s investigation into the aforesaid allegations.
