Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) arrests a Kroonstad constable for murder and defeating the ends of justice

The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) yesterday arrested a 26 year-old constable based at crime intelligence unit, Kroonstad for murder and defeating the ends of justice.

The arrest follows an ICD investigation into the death of 23 year old Mr Pule Edward Feza from Maokeng in Kroonstad, Free State.

It is alleged that in the evening of 8 May 2011, the Constable, who was off duty at the time, shot Mr Feza for having an affair with his wife. Mr Feza was injured and taken to Boitumelo Hospital in Kroonstad, where he died on 10 May 2011.

The ICD’s Free State office was informed and it started an investigation. The investigation releaved that the version of the constable, his wife and friend, was concocted to cover up the cause and circumstances of the shooting. It has now been established that the deceased and the constable’s wife were having an affair.

The initial report (which is false) that the ICD received was that the wife of the suspect was approached while waiting for her husband at a bus stop near Lesedi Clinic in Maokeng, Kroonstad. It was alleged that Mr Feza approached her from behind and threatened to shoot her if she did go with him to a nearby open field with the intention of raping her. It was reported that the suspect, who was in the company of his friend, saw his wife and the deceased and gave chase. Apparently when he approached his wife and the deceased, the wife warned him that the deceased might shoot the suspect. The suspect allegedly took out his service pistol and shot in the direction of Mr Feza, who was then injured. This version has since been found to be false.

The suspect was arrested by the ICD and he will appear on 12 May 2011 at the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court. He will face charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
