Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) publishes applications for self-provisioning by broadcasting services licensees

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) hereby invites interested persons to submit written responses to applications for individual electronic communications network services by broadcasting service licensees for the purpose of self-provisioning. The applications have been published on ICASA website and the library.

On 26 March 2009, the authority issued an invitation to apply inviting broadcasting services licensees to apply for I-ECNS licence for the provisioning of broadcasting services through satellite infrastructure. The authority received five applications from the following applicants:

* Walking on Waters (WoW)
* ETV
* On Digital Media (ODM)
* Telkom Media
* WorldSpace.

The authority invites any interested parties to submit written responses on or before 31 July 2009 at 16h00 by fax or email at:

Addressed for the attention of the Chairperson and hand delivered to the General Manager, Licensing and Compliance at Block D, Pinmill Farm, 164 Katherine Street, Sandton.

All written responses submitted to the Authority pursuant to the applications shall be made available for inspection by interested persons at the ICASA library during weekdays from 8h30 to 16h30 and copies of such responses can be obtained upon payment of the prescribed fee.

The authority intends holding public hearings on the applications on 20 August 2009. Persons or organisations who wish to make any written responses must also indicate whether they would like an opportunity to make oral representations at the hearings.
