Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) clarifies and amends the ITA for regional commercial radio stations

Johannesburg: The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) would like to draw the attention of stakeholders and potential applicants to amendments made to the Invitation to Apply (ITA) for the commercial radio station that was published on 27 March 2009.

The Authority has published a notice in Government Gazette Number: 32438 that seeks to amend and clarify three aspects of the ITA, namely:
* the recall of certain frequencies that were mentioned in the ITA and were earmarked for commercial sound broadcasting in Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban
* one licence in each of the primary markets in Cape Town, Gauteng and Durban
* the new closing date for submission of applications has now been changed to 30 September 2009 instead of 31 September 2009.

The decision to licence new commercial radio stations for the three markets of Cape Town, Gauteng and Durban emanates from a Position Paper published in 2004.
