Thirteen more drivers were arrested by North West Public Safety Road Traffic Officers on Saturday night during a special operation that focused on illegal drag racing. The arrests bring to 23 drunken drivers arrested in and around the FIFA Football World Cup host city of Rustenburg over the past two days.
Saturday night’s road traffic law enforcement operations focused on the Rustenburg central business district especially around the square where illegal drag racing is done.
The operations are part of the province’s shift to zero tolerance crime prevention and road traffic law operations announced earlier by North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa to sustain the onslaught on lawlessness to prevent opportunistic crime, ensure safety of citizens and football fans and safer roads.
The arrested drivers are to appear in the Rustenburg, Tlhabane and Phokeng Magistrate Courts respectively on Monday.
