The ICD has arrested three policemen for assault, defeating the ends of justice and malicious damage to property – Chatsworth, KwaZulu-Natal

The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) has arrested three policemen for assault, defeating the ends of justice and malicious damage to property. The policemen are a Warrant Officer, Sergeant and a Constable, two of whom are based at Chatsworth and one is based at Port Shepstone.

It is alleged that the Constable had a quarrel with one of the victims during the month of July 2011 at the Fan Fair. The member of the SAPS was off duty.

On 27 December 2011 at about 18h00 the Constable arrived at the victims premises together with his colleagues in full uniform. The Constable’s face was covered. Two victims were assaulted with a broom and mop sticks. Another victim was assaulted in a police vehicle.

Some property was also damaged. The assault was filmed on CCTV. The three policemen were arrested by the ICD and taken to Durban Central Police Station for detention.

They will appear at the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on 29 March 2012.
