The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) will provide support to the National Joints Operations Centre (NATJOC) for proper usage of the radio frequency spectrum for the successful and seamless hosting of the ANC Centenary Celebrations in Mangaung, Free State on 08 January 2012.
The Centenary celebration is expected to draw about 60 Heads of State from around the world, as well as hundreds of VIPs both locally and internationally. A total of 8000 delegates are expected to converge in Mangaung for the duration of the celebrations.
As a result of the high profile nature of this Centenary Celebration, the event falls within the jurisdiction of the NATJOC which oversees the seamless hosting of national and international events such as the Inauguration of the President, the FIFA World or the COP 17 Conference that was held recently in Durban.
NATJOC coordinates various government services for the hosting of national and international events for purposes of security and crime prevention as well as emergency services.
To this end, ICASA will provide the necessary support to the NATJOC in relation to the issuance of Special Events Licences for local and foreign media that will be covering the ANC Centenary Celebrations.
ICASA’s inspectors will also be on duty to ensure appropriate usage of the radio frequency spectrum by monitoring and resolving incidents of interference to enable the security services to execute their duties during this period.
ICASA has developed an online application form for individuals and entities that need Special Event Licences for purposes of rendering broadcasting, security and other services to their clients during the duration of the Centenary Celebration.
In addition, the Authority has developed guidelines for individuals and entities that will be issued with the Special Event Licences. Applications forms and any other information relating to ICASA’s role during this event can be downloaded from www.icasa.org.za.
