Hundreds of building inspectors attend workshop to improve quality building government houses

Hundreds of building inspectors from local, district municipalities, departmental, National Builder Registration Council, are meeting today and tomorrow to improve their technical acumen on inspecting the quality of government built houses in the province.

The workshops comes in the wake of nearly 20 000 defective houses currently being rectified by the department due to shoddy workmanship by contractors and lack of monitoring by building inspectors.

The workshop focuses on reaching a consensus on what constitutes a complete housing unit, briefing by National Builders Registration Council about their processes including project enrolment. It will also equip all technical staff to understand what is required from them in terms of national building regulations point of view and adhering to building regulations and standards.

The workshop is currently underway Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) premises in East London today and tomorrow.
