Human Settlements on reports of establishment of inquiry into City of Cape Town council flats renovations

The Ministry of Human Settlements has not established an inquiry into the renovations of the City of Cape Town council flats

The Ministry of Human Settlements has received a number of enquiries from the media in relation to the appointment of a Commission of Enquiry into the alleged irregularities in respect of the renovation of the City of Cape Town council flats.

I wish to advise that the Minister of Human Settlements was not in office last week, due to her involvement in the arrangements for the official special funeral of the late Mme Ruth Mompati and has no knowledge of this matter.

The Ministry of Human Settlements wishes to put it on record that the Minister has not been briefed on this matter and has not applied her mind to the request. When she does, we will inform the media. Currently, there is no Commission of Inquiry.

The Ministry further appeals to those with information on any wrong-doing to approach the law enforcement agencies which are mandated to investigate, prosecute and punish law transgressors.
