Housing delivery programme

In moving forward towards 2014 vision, the department continues to improve all our efforts aimed at realising housing with secure tenure, and the development of viable communities for all people.

Under the umbrella of flagship projects, Mixed Housing Developments Programme is an innovative approach to housing delivery that provides a mixture of housing products to suit the poor, low and middle income earners. The initiative aims to promote racial class integrated settlements in Gauteng. Another objective is to accommodate communities in well located areas that provide economic opportunities or have greater potential for economic growth.

The programme is undertaken in partnership with the private sector, especially financial institutions enabling a beneficiary choice to access government subsidy to supplement a bond from a financial institution. The programme provides the communities with a variety of amenities in one environment from houses, schools, and libraries to clinics and sports facilities as well as commercial and industrial developments.

In summary mixed housing project will achieve the following:

* Build houses on well located land near economic opportunities, with social and economic amenities.
* Promote mixed tenure, mixed income and mixed land use.
* Ensure good quality delivery of housing.
* Involvement of the private sector in the funding and construction of houses.
