The Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Honourable Lindiwe Maseko, notes the picket organised by Cosatu in Gauteng. The picket as indicated by Cosatu, is about a number of concerns relating to developments in Gauteng such as the ongoing eToll matter.
As the Gauteng Provincial Legislature we respect the rights of Cosatu members to march or picket and also acknowledge they remain a voice representing their constituency which has mandated the federation to take matters raised forward.
We wish to affirm our commitment as an oversight Institution, mandated with the responsibility of ensuring every citizen in Gauteng has a voice on matters relating to policy, legislation and the runnings of government, in ensuring that we continue to open doors of the Legislature to all our stakeholders including Cosatu.
As we open the Institution officially today, we reiterate our commitment to public participation and strengthening relations with stakeholders of the Legislature.
Cosatu remains proactive in the processes of the Legislature and has proven that indeed they do work. We will receive the memorandum as cited and ensure that it’s delivered to relevant departments and if need be, broker a platform for engagement with the appropriate officials for further engagement and possible resolutions.
We also urge Cosatu to exploit this day and accord the Premier of Gauteng, Hon. Nomvula Mokonyane an audience, as she will decisively deliberate on some of the pertinent matters raised by the Federation and possibly granting some of the answers they seek.
We encourage Cosatu to continue to use processes in place at the Legislature as they did last year and be part of the solutions required to take Gauteng to greater heights.
