The Department of Home Affairs wishes to inform members of the public that the online verification system, HANIS, is down due to cables that are damaged and is expected to be up by 11h00 later today.
The damage to cables resulted in a power failure at the Department’s New Co-operation building where the system is located. Consequently, systems that require HANIS verification such as live capturing of Smart ID cards as well as passports have been affected.
Electricians have been working all night to replace the cables while the Home Affairs IT team is on standby to restore the server. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and wish to reiterate our commitment to providing a quality service to our clients.
