Home Affairs stands ready to assist matriculants with identity documents (IDs)

Minister of Home Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has, in preparation for the release of the 2010 matric results, instructed officials of the department to maintain operations of a 24 call centre for the issuance of identity documents to matriculants who have lodged applications but are still awaiting the receipt of such documents.

In October this year, the department established a 24 hour national call centre to fast track the issuance of identity documents to these needy matriculants. Since the establishment of the call centre, a number of matriculants were assisted to obtain their IDs, thus enabling them to write their matric examinations.

Minister Dlamini Zuma said, “This additional measure to assist matriculants will enable them to obtain their IDs timeously as they await their 2010 matric results. We believe that this move will assist in preventing a last minute scramble when matriculants prepare to either enroll at institutions of higher learning or to seek employment.”

“This measure forms part of a broader drive by the department to provide excellent service to all citizens and to ensure that the objectives of the National Population Registration Campaign including the issuance of IDs to all 16 year olds and above are achieved,” she said

Consequently, all matriculants still awaiting receipt of their IDs are urged to urgently contact the call centre for assistance at the following contact numbers:

  • 0800 6011 90
  • 0800 2044 76
  • 071 1236 353
  • 0711255 631
  • 071 2278 438
  • 072 3810 836
  • 072 616 8819
  • 072 4358 569
  • 079 511 8810
  • 079 0754 326
  • 082 806 4945
  • 082 808 2782

The contact centre is operational on a 24 hour basis and with immediate effect. In order for the call centre operators to speedily assist matriculants in need of this service, students must provide the following critical information:

  • Full names, surnames and an identity number as it appears on the birth certificate
  • Proof of registration for the 2010 matric examinations
  • An examination number
  • An examination centre number
  • The provision of a cell phone or landline contact number.

Following verification of this information, the applicant will be advised through sms or telephone of the collection date for their identity document.
