The suggestion by the Democratic Alliance MP, Dr Dion George that Minister of Home Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is refusing to answer questions relating to the lease of the Hallmark Building, the department’s new headquarters in Pretoria, is thunder and lightning, signifying nothing.
Minister Dlamini Zuma has replied to the best of her ability to the parliamentary question posed by the Democratic Alliance regarding the lease of the Hallmark Building.
In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma has pointed out that the lease was handled by the Department of Public Works, as the government agency dealing with the procurement of government leased buildings.
Accordingly, at no stage did the Department of Home Affairs have to deal with any aspect of the tendering processes including the names of companies who have tendered nor was it privy to information related to the owners of companies that were tendering.
We therefore reiterate our response to the parliamentary question that the entire process was handled at all material times by the Department of Public Works.
The suggestion therefore that the Department of Home Affairs has awarded a tender to African National Congress (ANC) connected business people must be rejected with the contempt it deserves.
