Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma honoured with a lifetime achievers award at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg

The Minister of Home Affairs and newly-elected chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma was today, Wednesday, 8 August 2012, honoured with a lifetime achiever's award at the Emperors Palace in Johannesburg.

This comes on the background of the role that the minister plays in the struggle for women's emancipation and her recent election as the first woman to occupy the position of AU Commission chairperson.

The minister paid tribute to her grandparents, parents and the rural community where she grew up as she said she was raised by the whole community. She also thanked all the presidents of South Africa who have given her the opportunity to serve as a minister in different portfolios for the past 18 years since the dawn of democracy in South Africa in 1994.

The minister has previously served as a minister of health, foreign affairs and currently home affairs where she is credited with turning the department around into an effective and efficient department.
