Home Affairs to increase capacity to deal with traveller
volumes over Easter

The Department of Home Affairs will from today Thursday 21 April 2011, in anticipation of increased traveller volumes over the Easter holiday period be implementing an operational plan that will ensure speedy facilitation of movement in and out of the country through the country’s ports of entry.

The operational plan for the holiday period will include the deployment of an additional 152 immigration officials to high volume ports of entry such as Lebombo, Oshoek, Maseru, Fiksburg and Kopfontein, Extended operational hours at some ports of entry will be implemented as follows:

Port of entry and hours of operation

Lebombo: 24 hours
Oshoek: 24 hours
Mahamba: 07h00 - 24h00
Jeppes Reef: 07h00 - 22h00
Mananga: 07h00 - 20h00
Caledonspoort: 06h00 - 24h00
Van Rooyenshek: 06h00 - 24h00
Groblersburg: 24 hours

The ports of Caledonspoort and Van Rooyenshek in the Free State will be open for 24 hours only on Thursday 21 April 2011.

Through the enhanced Movement Control System (e-MCS) implemented during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the department will be able to monitor traveller volumes and should these exceed expectations, additional staff will accordingly be deployed.

The operational plan for the Easter holidays is aimed at providing quality  services to all those wishing to travel in and out of the country, within the framework of the country’s immigration laws and without any hindrance.
