The Department of Home Affairs wishes to advise South Africans and international visitors travelling through our national ports of entry of the effect the current snowfalls due to extreme weather conditions have had on a number of these ports of entry.
While the majority of our ports of entry continue to provide the necessary and normal immigration services despite weather conditions, a few others had to be closed down either because the roads are inaccessible or the snowfall in the relevant ports of entry make it impossible for immigrations services to be delivered to travellers.
In this regard, the following ports of entry have had to be closed down as result of extreme weather conditions:
- Qachasnek border in the Eastern Cape-closed
- Monontsha Pass border post in the - Free State –slippery roads leading to the port of entry
- Sunnypass and Boesmanshek border posts in- KZN-roads leading to ports of entry closed
The Department of Home Affairs wishes to assure travellers that those ports of entry affected by these weather conditions will indeed be opened as soon as the weather conditions improve to allow the department to resume normal immigration services. The department extends its support to those travellers thus inconvenienced by the current weather conditions.
