Following media enquiries regarding the Cape High Court judgement handed down last week compelling the Department of Home Affairs to process new asylum-seeker applications within the Cape Town metropolitan area, the department wishes to put the following on record:
1. The Department of Home Affairs notes and respects the judgement delivered by Justice Dennis Davis on 26 July 2012 in the Cape High Court on the processing of new asylum-seeker applications
2. In this regard, the Department is waiting for the delivery of the written judgement from the court, which we hope will be expedited
3. Upon receipt of the written judgement, the department will study it and consider an appropriate course of action
4. Until the written judgement is issued by the court, the status quo regarding the processing of new asylum-seeker applications remains.
