A car crashed through a palisade fence and into a house in Mothotlung outside Brits in the North West Province after its driver was shot during a hijacking incident on Wednesday evening.
It is alleged that the 34- year-old man was bundled into the back of his Citroen sedan by three suspects who had stopped him, pulled keys from his ignition and dragged him out of his vehicle before shooting him on the chest at around 21h40pm.
The suspects who struggled to drive the vehicle allegedly lost control of the vehicle before it crashed into the house behind the Lutheran Church. They reportedly fled the scene on foot leaving the wounded man in the vehicle.
It is unknown how many people were in the house at the time of the crash but none of them were injured.
An off-duty traffic officer who was visiting a colleague in the area was among the first to arrive at the scene of the crash and phoned paramedics and police. The injured motorist was rushed to hospital.
North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono in wishing the injured motorist a speedy recovery appeals to members of the public to assist police with information that might assist them in their investigations so that the suspects are arrested.
“The Mothotlung community cannot afford to have heartless criminals like these on the loose. They need to be apprehended before committing other crimes and endangering the lives of other people,” said MEC Mohono.
Mohono has urged police not to leave any stone unturned to ensure that those responsible for the crime are behind bars.
