DHET is committed to finding solutions to issues raised by NEHAWU
The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor has expressed concern at the failure to make progress in the meeting with NEHAWU, this morning.
The Minister’s view is that the matters related to staff conditions of service and benefits can be concluded in the bargaining council and the department is ready to find solutions to any outstanding matters. Minister Pandor, however, expressed dismay at NEHAWU’s insistence that the Director-General should not form part of the Minister’s delegation.
“I had hoped we will resolve all the concerns as speedily as possible because the disruptions to colleges are impacting on the academic year, on supplementary and trimester examinations and on registration of students.
These disruptions have a direct and negative impact on the success of students and the disruptions in the registration of students, which prevents NSFAS from processing and distributing allowances to deserving students from poor and working-class families,” said Minister Pandor.
“The failure of the meeting was made more disappointing by the fact that much progress had been made on several issues of dispute,” she added.
The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) continues to appeal to NEHAWU to return to the General Public Service Sector of the Bargaining Council (GPSSBC) wherein all the issues they have raised can be resolved.
