The Honourable Minister of Public Works Mr Thulas Nxesi, accompanied by the Honourable Deputy Minister Mr Jeremy Cronin, as well as Public Works MEC's – have visited three capital projects in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
The visit by the Minister was aimed at getting first-hand experience of what is happening in these projects.
The delegation visited an R11 million clinic in the Shongweni Dam - north of Durban, an R18 million renovation to the Phoenix community centre and a R74 million expansion of the KwaMashu Police Station.
The Minister used the opportunity to interact with project managers, contractors and ordinary workers so as to listen to their experiences and challenges since these are the people who spend more time on sites.
The Minister said he was impressed with the progress made in all the projects he visited.
"I'm more impressed by the speed at which the Shongweni Dam project is moving, as it is on time and within its allocated budget," said the Minister.
He praised the good partnership between the government and the traditional leadership.
The Inkosi of the area Chief Bhekamanganga Shozi thanked government for delivering this project to his area, considering that people were travelling as far as Pinetown to access a health-care facility.
