As part of its efforts to ensure healthy human resource, Eastern Cape Department of Transport's Chris Hani District Wellness Unit together with Health Department and South African Blood Services held a blood donation and condom week at Queenstown district Offices on the 20 February 2013.
The purpose of the campaign is to reduce the spread of STI, to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS, to promote good nutrition and regular physical activity, as well as responsible use of alcohol and tobacco control.
“In South Africa sexually transmitted infections (STI) remain a huge challenge, even though most of the infections can be cured”, said Wellness Assistant Manager, Sebenzile Kakalala
He added that the exercise was intended to sensitize the employees about a healthy life style.
Employees from the district office and traffic station were screened on the following:
- Blood Sugar
- Blood Pressure
- Pap smear
- HIV/AIDS Test
- TB Screening
- Blood Grouping
- Blood Donation
