Health and Social Development MEC is concerned about stabbing of a child

The Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC Ntombi Mekgwe is disturbed by an attack on an innocent child.

This comes after a nine year old girl who is fighting for her life in hospital was allegedly stabbed repeatedly by her mother in White City Jabavu, Soweto on Sunday.

MEC Mekgwe says the continued cases of violence against children were a concern as children deserve protection from their own parents and society.

“This unfortunate incident occurred on the eve of Child Protection Week which aims at encouraging families and societies to protect children from being victims of all forms of abuse,” says MEC Mekgwe.

The department through the services of social workers will provide psycho-social support to the family.
