The Hawks in Limpopo have (on Wednesday) arrested a 49-year-old female for allegedly defrauding victims over R227 000. It is alleged that during November 2010 and May 2011 the suspect was a chairperson of a political party in the province when she collected money and items from members of the party promising them loans.
The applicants were allegedly requested to pay instalments in advance before the funds could be deposited into their bank accounts. They were apparently promised to receive money two weeks after they have applied. Amounts of R2000 including the goods were collected from the supporters. Some party members allegedly handed over cars and furniture to the suspect after they were shown fraudulent bank statement with millions of rands.
Ten people have so far handed statements to the investigating officer. We expect that more people will make statements against the suspect.
