GPG Imbizo in Hammanskraal

MEC for Infrastructure Development, Mr Bheki Nkosi paid tribute to community activists whom he said continued to show dedication to the upliftment of the areas in which they live. Nkosi highlighted that Gauteng Provincial Government was working hand in hand with municipalities to build long lasting partnerships with communities so that the people should take public ownership of infrastructure development programmes while also creating jobs and imparting much needed skills. Nkosi was addressing the community of Stinkwater in Hammanskraal on the 17 of August 2011.

The MEC also spoke of the gradual impact of ongoing projects such as additional clinics, recreational facilities and the maintenance of schools and other local infrastructure. He also encouraged the people to initiate other community based programmes that could help improve the quality of life while also alleviating poverty and underdevelopment. Members of the community also showed passion for their area and raised various ideas on the acceleration of service delivery in Hammanskraal.

The main objective of the Imbizo was to outline ongoing and planned government programmes in the area, and to also align them with other needs of the underlying communities. The MECs were also accompanied by councilors from the city, as well as other stakeholders from community based organisations. The Imbizo also sought to address social and economic issues facing the women of Stinkwater Hammanskraal.

The Stinkwater Imbizo was part of the ongoing Gauteng Provincial Government’s initiative of involving communities in government’s programmes.
