Minister Mkhize to attend funeral of Undlunkulu UmaMzila
The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Zweli Mkhize will attend the funeral service of uNdlunkulu Princess Irene Thandekile Audrey Buthelezi, uMaMzila, the wife of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
Dr Mkhize has reiterated his condolence message to the family.
“It is no secret that uNdlunkulu and yourself Shenge have been role models for an enduring and enviable marital partnership that inspired many younger couples. UNdlunkulu will be remembered for her dignified and elegant deportment as she represented the family and office with equal measure of composure and grace. She has been respected for being a pillar of strength for UMntwana in her quiet way as you Shenge fulfilled various leadership callings in the Buthelezi Community, in politics, the Inkatha Freedom Party and also as a public servant over many challenging decades. Her friendship and firm support and loyal partnership must have meant a lot during the challenging days of our struggle for freedom, especially the painful era of violence that engulfed our people.”
He added: “UNdlunkulu will be remembered as a mother, a professional and an outstanding social figure who was a leader in her own right capable of producing and mentoring other leaders. She will be remembered as a humble yet courageous woman who was an icon admired by as many as those she inspired. She will be missed for her quiet but warm smile and her generosity of spirit.”
The funeral service will be held at Ulundi Stadium, Ulundi, KZN today, 29 March.
