MEC Thabo Meeko launches Rui Star Iron-steel plant at Thaba Nchu Industrial Park, 21 Jul

MEC Meeko invests in industrialization

DESTEA MEC Thabo Meeko, together with the Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana, will officially launch the Rui Star Iron-steel plant on Friday, 21 July 2023, at Thaba Nchu Industrial Park.

The said smelter plant investment initiated to grow the Free State economy, including that of surrounding areas and create the much needed jobs. The company sources scrap metals from across the country and processes it into steel and iron for the domestic and export market.

The investment is worth over R300 million and has currently created 150 jobs. This facility will have the capacity to recruit over 500 people when fully commissioned.

MEC Meeko said “With the investment such as the Rui Star Iron Steel manufacturing plant, it is a clear demonstration that we are on a mission to attract more investors to grow the Free State economy so as to create the much needed jobs for the local people”.

It is for this reason that we have embarked on a roadshow to meet with local municipalities to ensure that they create incentive packages that will assist in attracting more investments and unlock local economic opportunities.
