Justice and Constitutional Development hosts a community engagement and dialogue session in Kakamas as part of the Northern Cape Presidential Imbizo, 19 Oct

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ&CD) will on 19 October 2022, host a community engagement and dialogue session in Kakamas, Northern Cape province.

According to Departmental records, Kakamas is bedevilled with an exponential rise in Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) related offences.

The engagement will focus on the three Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) legislation, which President Cyril Ramaphosa has enacted recently, these being: The Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, The Criminal and Related Matters Amendment Act, and The Domestic Violence Amendment Act.

The pieces of legislation seek to reinforce efforts to end gender-based violence and femicide by strengthening bail laws and intensifying victim centric approach on all GBVF related cases. The event is being hosted as build-up towards the Presidential Imbizo on GBVF scheduled to take place from 20 - 21 October 2022 in Upington, ZF Mgcawu District Municipality.

Members of the media are invited to cover the event as follows:
Date: 19 October 2022
Time: 10:00
Venue: Kakamas Laerskool, Sonneblom Street, Kakamas (Northern Cape Province)
