Gauteng hosts carnival in Tshwane, 24 Sept

Carnival to brighten up the streets of Tshwane

With just a few days to go, Gauteng’s boldest and brightest carnival led by Premier David Makhura, MEC’s and the Tshwane Mayor is set to take over the streets of Tshwane in a vivid celebration of South African culture and heritage. Residents and visitors can look forward to see over 25 000 participants showcasing Africa’s creativeness through mesmerising floats, large 3D costumes, acrobats, enthralling dancers, eclectic mix of music colorfully parading the capital city of South Africa (Tshwane). The parade is about 6,7km starting at the Tshwane Events Centre and make its way around the Capital City before ending at the events centre.

Organised by Gauteng Provincial Government, City of Tshwane and the Carnival Company the parade will consist of a multitude of African cultures, as well as Peruvian, Chinese, Argentinian, Indian and many more.

“We are encouraging all residents of Gauteng to come and witness the true character of Gauteng as we showcase our cultural diversity and a true united African continent, while living our heritage and treasuring the year of OR Tambo. This day will also bring you an array of entertainment, fun and laughter with entertainment by groups of people from different cultures and countries. So do bring your family and friends to come and enjoy an unforgettable cheerful heritage day”, says MEC for Sport, Arts Culture and Recreation, Ms Faith Mazibuko.

“We have continued to work on a number of initiatives to bolster the Carnival to new and exciting heights. It is an all-inclusive celebration with content and activities from the many different cultures that live in South Africa, and we are excited to host over 25, 000 people who we expect to join in the celebrations,” said Rachel Tambo, CEO at Carnival Company.

The day will end in a specular festival of food and live cultural music, cultural dances, pantsula dancers and performances from different genres of DJ’s performing on four different stages at the same venue.

  • 23 September 2017 – Tshwane Events Centre, Club House Tshwane (12:00 -15:00)

The accreditation will allow members of the media access to the Tshwane Events Centre.
