DESTEA teaching learners to care for their environment
The Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs and its partners, Windmill Casino, ABSA, Nedbank, SANBI and Department of Education will host 2023 Enviro Quiz, which is a programme that works towards a clean, green, healthy, and more sustainable environment. The programme also aims to develop confident learners that are aware of the beauty and the problems in their environment and what they can do to look after it. All activities are linked with the Grade 6 natural science syllabus.
As degradation of our environment is currently a great concern, the theme for 2023 Enviro Quiz is "Repairing Our Earth". The activities that the learners will compete and participate in include displaying their projects, presenting their projects, production of environmental songs, quiz and games.
A total of 40 learners from 10 schools progressed to the finals from 140 schools across the province that entered this year`s competition. Winners from number one to ten will be announce during a price giving ceremony after the judges decided on the winners based on their performance in all activities.
The Enviro Quiz competition was started 30 years ago by DESTEA in the Free State with only six teams taking part in the first year and eventually became very popular and grew to more teams and Primary Schools participating annually.
