Distressed companies and opportunity providers invited to an advocacy session – Department of Employment and Labour
The Bellville Labour Centre Public Employment Services (PES), in collaboration with Young People at Work (YPW) in the Western Cape Province is inviting employers and opportunity providers in Parow and surrounding areas to an advocacy session.
To be held under theme: “Post-pandemic: Labour Activation Programme”, the session aims to create awareness on the variety of services offered by the PES unit to foster access to employment and learning opportunities.
Furthermore, the session will provide assistance to distressed companies and opportunity providers to apply for funding of the Labour Activation Programme (LAP) offered by the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), which is aimed at ensuring that, unemployed UIF beneficiaries are re-integrated back into the labour market.
The Unemployment Insurance Amendment Act, 10. of 2016 (section 5 a) provides for the funding or retention of contributors in employment and the re-entry of contributors into the labour market.
The LAP programme was established to increase the Fund’s participation in poverty alleviation schemes and it realises this objective by focusing on the following areas;
- Partnerships to implement job creation initiatives;
- Training of the unemployed and underemployed; Temporary employee-employer relief scheme for distressed companies; and
- Funding Productivity South Africa (Productivity South Africa) to implement business re-engineering process or turn-around solutions for the benefit of companies in distress.
The session will address all challenges pertaining the application and administration process for the LAP funding and formulate an approach that will assist stakeholders and employers to iron out all the details.
The media is invited to the session scheduled to take place as follows:
Date: Friday, 14 October 2022
Venue: Parow Library
Time: 08h30 for 09h00 – 14h00
