A sport event is only as good as it the people making sure rules are obeyed and that it takes place in a fair and just atmosphere. That's why the Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) hosted a recent skills workshop for persons due to act as technical officials at the upcoming 2010 Golden Games to help ensure a well presented event.
The Golden Games is a flagship project of SRSA, and is a competitive activity program aimed at person aged sixty years and older.
The workshop was attended by two dozen officials from various provinces, and was marked by the keen spirit of the participants to learn and gain experience in officiating over the unique sports items such as duck walk and ball throw that typify the character of the Golden Games.
The workshop consisted of a theory part where attendees were taught the rules of the different items and how to apply them on the field, and a practical part where they practiced the items themselves in order to become familiar with the sports.
"We're doing this to ensure a quality Golden Games that is produced professionally, ensuring that all participants enjoy themselves and fraw benefit from participating," said Kanyane Mohlala, SRSA Deputy Director for Special Projects, who leads the project.
