Go-live date for new declaration process postponed to 1 November 2010

A joint decision was taken by key members of trade and South African Revenue Service (SARS) last Thursday that the go-live date for the new declaration process would be postponed from 1 October until 1 November 2010.

The decision was taken in the interests of the entire import and export industry in order to give service providers more time to test their systems to ensure readiness for the go-live date.

It would also give service providers and customs clearing agents enough time for additional training and to iron out any technical problems that may arise during testing.

All members of trade are asked to ensure readiness with their service providers and/or customs clearing agents before 1 November.

If anyone still needs training on the new procedure codes, they can contact Johan Marais from SAAFF who has been coordinating training on behalf of the industry. He can be contacted on 011 922 9624 or email: johanm@safcorpanalpina.co.za
