The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Bheki Cele, is spending the day in the North West province to check on their state of readiness for the Local Government Elections taking place on 18 May 2011.
General Cele was briefed by management of the SAPS North West, led by the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General MNZ Mbombo on their preparations to secure the election process and was presented with a copy of their operational plan.
General Cele has indicted that he is satisfied with the plan and that he is confident that the police in that province will safeguard all aspects of the election process in an impartial and efficient manner.
He will, during today’s visit, also address the security forces to be deployed during the elections and later in the day will visit police operations in the province.
The National Commissioner will proceed to Mpumalanga tomorrow and KwaZulu-Natal on Friday.
