General Bheki Cele appoints two new Deputy National Commissioners

Today the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Bheki Cele, proudly announced the appointment of two Deputy National Commissioners who will serve on his top management.

The two Lieutenant Generals, already serving in top positions in the SAPS, will take up their new posts on 1 February 2011 and join the deputies already serving, that is Lieutenants General Christine Mgwenya, Magda Stander, Anwa Dramat and André Pruis.

Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, presently the Divisional Commissioner of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (also known as the Hawks) will become the Deputy National Commissioner: Crime Detection.

Lieutenant General Leah Mofomme, presently the Divisional Commissioner for Personnel Management, will become the Deputy National Commissioner responsible for Physical Resources Management.

“I have the utmost confidence in these two Generals who are both experienced police officials who have worked their way up through the ranks and who both have exemplary academic qualifications”, said General Cele. “An onerous responsibility rests on both of their shoulders, but I have no doubt that they will meet each challenge with the diligence and loyalty they have displayed throughout their careers”, he added.
