Commission for Gender Equality welcomes the appointment of new Commissioners

In terms of Section 9(a) of the CGE Act 39 of 1996 as amended, The President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Jacob Zuma has appointed new Commissioners for the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE). Four of the Commissioners commenced their duties in January 2014, namely, Ms Lulama Nare, Ms Nomasonto Mazibuko, Mr. Mbuyiselo Botha and Ms Nomsisi Bata.

Two other Commissioners, Ms Fundisile Nzimande and Ms Siyanda Sobahle, will commence with their duties in June 2014. We also congratulate Commissioners Dr. Wallace Mgoqi and Dr. Nondumiso Maphazi whose terms of office were extended.

“The CGE welcomes the appointment of the above mentioned Commissioners. Given their experiences in gender equality matters, they will ultimately advance the course of gender equality”, said Mr Mfanozelwe Shozi the Chairperson of the Commission for Gender Equality.

The induction of the new Commissioners by the Commission will take place on 24 - 25 February 2014 at the Birchwood Hotel, Ekurhuleni in Gauteng. Amongst the people who are invited to address the induction of Commissioners is the Minister of Women, Children and People with Disabilities, the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Adv Pansy Tlakula and a representative from the Auditor-General.

Advocate Cetshwayo from the Office of the Speaker of the National Parliament will be observing Plenary proceedings. The induction will be followed by three day plenary of Commissioners; however, Commissioners will be available to engage with the members of media.
