Gender Equality extends condolences to family of MP Fezeka Loliwe

CGE sends it heartfelt condolescenes on the passing away of MP Fezeka Loliwe

The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) has noted with sadness the passing away of the Member of Parliament (MP) Honourable Fezeka Loliwe. The Commission sends its heartfelt condolescenes to the family, friends, relatives and colleagues of MP Loliwe. MP Loliwe sadly met her untimely death on the road in Fort Beaufort in the Eastern Cape doing her constituency work.

MP Loliwe has been a stellar representative of the people of South Africa as shown by her critical and objective engagements on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) inquiry. The CGE has noted that she represented the type of leader that our country needs and vindicated the CGE's arguments for equal representation of men and women in leadership and decision-making positions. We hope that she will be replaced by another woman of her calibre.

“As the Commission we mourn her death and celebrate the life of a proponent of gender equality who was not afraid to speak her mind on issues of patriarchy and gender stereotypes”, said Ms Lulama Nare, Chairperson of the Commission for Gender Equality.

On behalf of the Commission for Gender Equality, “We say your memory and what you laboured for will be your legacy. We shall never forget the footprints you left behind and the seamless effort in ensuring that gender equality is a reality in this country”, Ms Nare added.

May your soul rest in peace, Lala ngoxolo Fezeka Loliwe! We are proud to have known you!
