MEC Ismail Vadi has declared that the Gautrain Rapid Rail project will enter a new phase on 2 August 2011 with the resumption of the rail route between Rosebank Station and Hatfield Station in Pretoria. The announcement was made during the Gautrain Management Agency's 19th Quarterly Progress Report for the period April to June 2011.
The last leg of the project from Rosebank Station to Johannesburg's Park Station will be added as soon as the water problem is addressed. A bus service will, in the meantime, operate from Johannesburg station to the Rosebank station. The bus service is not available on weekends and public holidays. The trains will be in operation between 05h30 and 20h30 every day, running at 12 minute intervals during peak periods and 20 minute intervals during off-peak hours, including weekends.
All Gautrain stations, with the exception of Park Station, will be open from 29 July 2011 to enable commuters to familiarise themselves with the train and bus services. MEC Vadi has encouraged commuters to make use of this opportunity to purchase tickets and to avoid long queues when the system opens for service on Tuesday.
