Gautrain: Park Station link to operate

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi has announced that the Gautrain route between Park Station and Rosebank in Johannesburg will start operating before 16 June 2012. He made the announcement after delivering the 2012/13 Departmental budget speech to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on 05 June 2012.

MEC mentioned that the Hatfield and Rosebank service opened last year and “had a significant impact on Gauteng's public transport offerings - five more stations and 50km of rail line were opened together with 18 new bus routes.

Since August 2011 to date, almost seven million passenger trips were made on Gautrain and one and a half million trips were made on the Gautrain busses. He also stated that the Gautrain passenger demand on the airport services remained steady, with about 109 000 passenger trips per month.

The property developments taking place since the opening of the Rosebank Gautrain station was pleasing to the Gautrain Management Agency as this would lead to urban densification around the station nodes. This is reflected by the number of building constructions in Rosebank and Sandton as well as others recently approved by the City of Johannesburg.
