Gauteng Traffic Police records number of arrests during confederation cup

The FIFA Confederation Cup Task Team of the Department of Community Safety deployed to oversee law enforcement along Gauteng national and provincial routes, have recorded a number of successes since the commencement of the tournament.

Forty seven (47) vehicles, ranging from metered taxis and shuttle services mini-buses were impounded at the O R Tambo International Airport for operating without proper documentation. One suspect was arrested for reckless and negligent driving that caused an accident at the N12 off ramp. The suspect was taken into custody at the Benoni Police Station. In a separate incident another driver was also arrested for drinking and driving, along the N1 and was subsequently taken into custody at the Midrand Police Station.

The task team also recovered a hijacked truck along the N12 Giloolys interchange. Four suspects were arrested and taken into custody at the Benoni Police Station and are due to appear at the Benoni Magistrate court today.

More arrests are expected as lawlessness will not be tolerated during the confederations Cup and beyond.
