Gauteng steps up campaign to encourage responsible drinking during the festive season

Concerned about the impact of alcohol abuse during the festive season, the Gauteng provincial government has launched the Gauteng Liquor Awareness campaign.

Through the campaign, the Gauteng provincial government is urging the public, alcohol retailers, pubs, shebeens and clubs to encourage responsible consumption of alcohol.

In terms of the law:

* alcohol must not be sold to persons under 18 years old
* alcohol must not be sold to pregnant women
* alcohol must not be sold to someone who is already drunk and
* any drunk person must not be allowed to drive.

“We appeal to the people of Gauteng to enjoy their holidays and festivities in a responsible manner, ensuring that their families, especially children are protected from any harm,” Premier Mokonyane said.
