Gauteng Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation ready to support the Gauteng Sports Council

The Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Ms Nelisiwe Mbatha-Mthimkulu says the newly established Gauteng Sports Council should among others; expect her department to assist it in being a compliant entity to can also receive funding from other sources like lotto.

Addressing the first general meeting of the council held at the Coca Cola Park on Saturday, 1 August 2009, the MEC also outlined responsibilities of the council which among others include: Ensuring that all sporting structures are operational and sustainable and assisting with the creation of non-racial and non-sexist sport with unitary structures in all sporting codes.

It, the council, says it understands its primary task as being the mobilisation of all sports people and sports enthusiasts to contribute to the ongoing transformation and strengthening of sports and in the process foster responsibility for a common destiny.

The council will from next week be allowed to have a vote in the national council following a resolution to be taken by the National Sporting Federation in their upcoming weekend meeting.

According to the MEC one of the immediate deliverable of the council is to work collaboratively and with integration on the FIFA 2010 World Cup.
