Gauteng Social Development dismisses official for selling drugs

The Department of Social Development in Gauteng dismissed an official that was caught selling drugs to youngsters at the precinct of the Johannesburg Library Gardens behind its offices in the centre of the city.

The twenty year old male that was on internship programme for eleven months has been under police surveillance after youngsters attending city centre schools had pointed him out during earlier investigations.

In expressing shock, the MEC for Social Development; Faith Mazibuko commended members of Community Safety for apprehending the suspect.   “It is regrettable that an official who is expected to assist in curbing the scourge of substance abuse has undermined the very government that is at pains to help vulnerable youths that are ravaged by many social pathologies” grieved the MEC.

The department is committed to clean governance and would act decisively on officials that are suspected of any misdemeanor.
