Gauteng ready for the Sport Awards

It's all systems go for the glamorous 2012 Gauteng Sport Awards scheduled to take place on Saturday at Emperors Palace.

South Africa's top sporting and entertainment stars are billed for the event hosted by the Gauteng Provincial Government in partnership with Telkom.

The awards are a culmination of months of hard work by the Provincial Government in selecting the cream of the crop in the sporting fraternity.

The ceremony will feature appearances by artists and personalities such as Slikour, star performer Tamara Dey, Mo Flava from YFM and Orlando Pirates striker Benni McCarthy. There will also be performances by DJ Zinhle, Zonke, HHPand Jack Parrow to name a few.

The highlight of the night will the most promising athlete and the most promising team of the year categories as well as the sport personality of the year that have been voted for by the public.

The sport personality of the year category is contested by Neil Mackenzie from the Bizhub Highveld Lions cricket club, Marsha Marescia from Pirates hockey club, the current captain of the Proteas Ladies hockey team and Orlando Pirates Football Club captain Lucky Lekgwathi.

Gauteng's Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC Lebogang Maile has expressed satisfaction at preparations of the awards. "We're ready to honour and recognise Gauteng's excellence in sport through the Gauteng Sport Awards. This will be a night to remember in recognition of all the hard work by our sporting heroes," said MEC Maile

The awards will be broadcast live on SABC 1 from 8 pm.
