Gauteng Provincial Government appoints new spokesperson

The Gauteng Provincial Government has moved swiftly to beef up its communications team to ensure that there is an even better flow of information between government and the public.

This follows the appointment of journalist Xoli Mngambi (28) as media liaison officer for Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane, effective 1 August 2011. Dumisani Zulu, who is Mokonyane’s incumbent spokesperson, will in the future play a more strategic role in planning and research.

Mngambi, who is currently a news reporter for e-TV, is an experienced journalist who started his career as a financial planner with Momemtum Life before joining business network Summit TV. He then worked for CNBC Africa before joining e-TV.

Head of Communications in the Office of the Premier Matlakala Motloung said the appointment of Mngambi will strengthen the provincial government’s communication mandate and help effectively disseminate information to the residents of Gauteng.

“With Mngambi coming in, that will free Mr Zulu to concentrate on high-level strategic work in terms of our planning and research,” Motloung said.

Mngambi said he feels honoured to have been given the opportunity to serve the people of Gauteng as a government communicator.

“This is obviously something new to me but I am ready to roll up my sleeves and help the administration by communicating their work to the public. As the biggest province in the country, economically, I am aware that Gauteng has different challenges from other provinces.

“The high number of people migrating into the province everyday in search of better work and study opportunities is one of the many challenges the province is facing.

“I am looking forward to a good working relationship with my colleagues in the journalism fraternity. I also would like to thank e-tv for having given me the opportunity to be part of their newsroom and learn what I have learnt up to this far,” Mngambi said.
