On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG), Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has expressed shock at the news of the rape, mutilation and killing of a 14-year-old girl, Thandeka Madonsela, of Naturena, south of Johannesburg. Thandeka’s mutilated body was found near the N1 highway on Saturday.
“We would like to send our sincere condolences to the family of Thandeka. We condemn her killing in the strongest possible terms. No one deserves to be raped, mutilated and murdered; more so when we are commemorating Human Rights month,” said Mokonyane.
The Gauteng premier added that human rights also meant respecting women and children. Mokonyane applauded the police for making swift arrests. The suspects, two teenage boys, have been released into the custody of their parents.
Meanwhile the family has confirmed that the ‘cheerful teen with big dreams’ will be laid to rest next week.
