Gauteng Premier intervenes in Gauteng Gambling Board dispute

The Premier of Gauteng, Nomvula Mokonyane, in consultation with the MEC for Economic Development, Qedani Mahlangu, has today (Thursday, 26 January 2012) taken the decision to stay the termination of the Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB) pending the resolution of the dispute by the Gauteng Executive Council (EXCO).

The GGB was dissolved more than a week ago following its failure to comply with the instruction of the MEC to relocate from its current offices in Bramley to downtown Johannesburg.

Economic Development MEC Qedani Mahlangu had stated that the relocation was part of an Executive Council decision to house all of her department's agencies, including the GGB, under one roof. The GGB took both matters - the relocation and the dissolution of the Board – to court and the matter was enrolled for hearing today.

The parties have since settled the matter on the basis that the termination of the Board would be stayed pending the decision of the EXCO.
