The passing of the veteran women’s rights activist, Sister Bernard Ncube, is a great loss to the people of Gauteng and South Africa.
“Sister Bernard was a mother to many who were involved in the struggle for liberation in South Africa. When many were hungry, lost and needed a helping hand, it was her compassion, patience and warm-heart that reminded people of the ideals many were fighting for. Our condolences to all her friends, colleagues and family,” said Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane.
Sister Bernard Ncube passed away on Friday.
Sister Bernard, who was a Member of Parliament and had also spent time as mayor of the Westrand Municipality, was a ‘true servant of the people who stood firm in her commitment to the people of South Africa.’
“Indeed, we have been honoured to have lived in the shadows of such an exceptional South African. We also agree with President Jacob Zuma when he says: ‘(Sister Bernard’s) legacy of courage and strong belief in human rights and freedom must inspire all of us to follow in her footsteps and make South Africa a beacon of freedom, democracy, hope and prosperity that she wanted it to be’,” Mokonyane said.
Details of her funeral are expected to be finalised this week.
