Gauteng mourns passing of soccer legend Thomas Madigage

On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government, Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has conveyed condolences to the family of Bafana Bafana Assistant Coach Thomas Madigage.

Madigage was killed in a car crash yesterday near Burgersfort in Limpopo when his car collided with a stray donkey.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of this soccer legend.  We would like to pass our sincere condolences to the family, friends and the entire nation.  Our condolences also go to the entire soccer fraternity in the country and internationally.

Mokonyane said Madigage was one of the youngest and most promising coaches in the country.

“Madigage will not only be remembered as a long-serving assistant coach at Premiership club SuperSport United but will also be remembered as sharp midfielder who made his debut for Jomo Cosmos in March 1987.

“Aged just 16-and-a-half, he was at the time the youngest player ever to feature in a South African domestic match,” said Mokonyane.

Madigage was appointed assistant to Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund in July 2012.

He would have turned 42 on November 14.
