The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation would like to express its heartfelt condolences on behalf of the provincial government to the family of South Africa’s jazz legend, Zim Ngqawana.
"The country has lost a musical genius and the music industry is poorer. His passing must serve as a reminder to the people, especially the youth about the rich heritage we have. His music including pieces like Qula Kwedini will continue to inspire many in the performing arts to aspire to achieve such meritorious accolades," said the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile.
"On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government our hearts are with his family, friends and the music fraternity at large in this moment of bereavement. The African soil from which he drew his inspiration will reclaim the mortal remains of former flautist and saxophonist, but his music will be an eternal monument to his genius," said the MEC.
